Two new bus service routes supported by ACC have started

Two news bus services supported by Aberdeen City Council to help residents access vital services have started.

The services – a day-time bus service between Peterculter and ASDA Garthdee via Cults, Airyhall and Mannofield, and an evening bus service in Airyhall and Craigiebuckler – are to start from 13 June.

Last month, Aberdeen City Council’s Communities, Housing and Infrastructure committee approved plans to spend £49,000 to introduce the day-time bus service between Peterculter and ASDA Garthdee. A further £32,500 is committed to providing an evening bus service in Airyhall and Craigiebuckler.

The new services are being introduced to help older residents access local amenities, connect to existing bus services and to introduce an evening service after 8pm.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: “We are only too pleased to introduce these two new bus services as the residents in the areas told us the routes are really vital for them.

“We hope both services are well used and make a real difference to the people living and working in the two areas.”

The new 95 service, operated by Stagecoach North Scotland, will serve Garthdee Retail Park, Mannofield, Airyhall, Cults and Peterculter and will prvide socially necessary journeys in Lower Deeside for residents who are unable to walk to existing bus services on North Deeside Road, and cover a shortfall created by the changes to the First Aberdeen services 5 and 15 earlier this year.

The First Aberdeen 15a supported service from Craigiebuckler/Airyhall will mostly follow the route of the excising service 15. However, it will continue after 8pm, with the final journey from the city centre departing at 11pm.

A public meeting was held last year after First Bus announced the withdrawal of the number five and a re-routing of the number 15 service in the Craigiebuckler and Airyhall communities.
