Youngsters learn construction skills at Marischal College event

16 February 2017

Around 60 pupils from Secondary schools across the city took part today (Thursday 16 February) in a special learning event at Marischal College teaching them about future career pathways in the construction industry.

The Scottish Contractors Group Skills Event run jointly by Aberdeen City Council and construction company Morgan Sindall allowed the pupils to engage with new technologies such as virtual reality headsets for construction modules. The group also visited the new Mariscal Square development to see new construction techniques for themselves.

Councillor Willie Young, Aberdeen City Council’s Finance Convener, was on hand to greet the youngsters and introduce teh days activities. He said: “This is a great opportunity for the pupils to learn new skills and see at first hand the career opportunities that could open up for them in the construction industry.

“We have invested hugely in the last five years not only in building new schools but also in providing a flexible curriculum that really engages our pupils and equips them for their working lives. Working in partnership with Morgan Sindall is another great example of our innovative approach”.
