£50,000 available as second round of Council Creative Funding goes live
12 June 2019
Aberdeen’s City Council has made £50,000 available as the second round of Creative Funding applications get underway this week.
The sum is part of the overall amount of £200,000 made available by the authority for creative projects; reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the city’s cultural life.
This year’s Creative Funding Programme gives individuals the opportunity of applying for up to £2000 while not-for-profit organisations can apply for up to £15,000 from the £200,000 available to support the development and delivery of arts, culture, heritage or other related creative activity across the city.
In the 2019 Creative Funding first round, the panel allocated funding to 14 individuals and 17 organisations, supporting creative projects benefitting the city. The projects range from musicians working in care homes to educational early years drama projects, arts awards training and research to celebrate the life of a local storyteller Stanley Robertson.
Councillor Marie Boulton, cultural spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council, said: “We have had a terrific response to the first round of applications and groups, individuals and a diverse range of audiences will benefit.
“Whether it's the intrinsic value of being creative or the social, educational and economic benefits of cultural activity and events, we recognise the important role culture plays in our everyday lives,
“That is why we looking forward so much to receiving the applications from creative individuals and groups from across the city for the remaining £50,000 of the £200,000 we have made available to support Aberdeen’s cultural life”.
Applications for the second round close on Tuesday 23 July at 5pm and guidelines and application forms available via

For the second round of funding individuals and organisations are being encouraged to consider proposing projects which align and celebrate the 700th Anniversary of the Stocket Charter signed by Robert the Bruce. The signing saw Aberdeen receive custodianship of the Forrest of Stocket (now Mid Stocket) and three other plots of land which combined became to be known as the Freedom Lands.
As a result of the finances generated from the forest, the Common Good Fund was created to benefit the people of the city. The fund helped create and benefit many important institutions including Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Central Library and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and continues to benefit and support many charities and communities within the city.
