Councillors support options for Middlefield development

Community regeneration plans have reached a new milestone as Councillors backed redevelopment options.

Aberdeen City Council’s Communities, Housing and Infrastructure selected two preferred options for regenerating a housing estate set to be demolished in the Middlefield area.

The options include retail and green space and part-retail, part public amenity space and 72 new build homes for single person use.

Due to the planned Haudagain Improvement Scheme which would form a Triangle Site surrounded by major new and existing roads, the local authority is rehousing tenants in Logie Avenue, Logie Gardens, Logie Place and North Anderson Drive.

A consultation held in November 2016 highlighted the majority of respondents were in favour of a mixed-use option for the site and now Council officers will develop detailed business cases in collaboration with the local community and report back to the committee in August.

Councillors also backed a recommendation to further engage with Scottish Ministers requesting assistance and financial support for the regeneration plans.

Aberdeen City Council spokesperson for Transport and Regeneration Councillor Ross Grant said: “The decision marks another step forward for the Middlefield area.

“Not only will we now prepare robust business cases to select the final and best option for the site, we will work closely with the entire community as we do so.

“We want to ensure those people who live and work in the area have a say in any new amenities that are brought to this site.”

In addition to the re-development of the Triangle Site, Aberdeen City Council has developed the £36million Shaping Middlefield plan which includes projects such as a the recently completed Community Hub, 179 new council homes, play park upgrades, green spaces and landscaping works as well as the new museum collection centre.
