ABZWorks events to help Aberdeen residents into work

01 October 2021

A two-day employability and training event will take place in Aberdeen next week as part of a concerted effort to help city residents into work.

The first day of the ABZWorks Fair has been designed for people who are facing redundancy or who have been paid off. The redundancy support event will take place in the Beach Ballroom on Tuesday (October 5) from noon until 7pm.

It will be followed on Wednesday (October 6) by the ABZWorks Jobs Fair, in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions.

Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said: “We know that people and some businesses are struggling right now, however we also know that there are strong support networks available, and job opportunities. Redundancy and unemployment can be bewildering and sometimes people need support to find the help they need.

“By bringing together partners under one roof, we are endeavouring to make it easier for people to access the support and advice they are entitled to, while also promoting new training and employment opportunities the following day.

“We also know that many of our employers are struggling to recruit, particularly in the care and hospitality sectors. I am pleased we can support these organisations by marrying up opportunities with people who are actively seeking work. I’m particularly heartened to hear that some employers will be offering interviews during the event and wish the best of luck to all of our jobseekers.”

Employers signed up to the ABZWorks jobs fair include VSA, Bon Accord Care, LJF Coatings, Homecare Scotland, and Securitas. Business Gateway will be there to promote self-employment and business start-up opportunities. Aberdeen City Council’s Money Advice team will also be on hand to provide financial support and advice to anyone seeking it.

The ABZWorks team will provide advice on employability support available across the city, as well as training and other support opportunities, and to give hints and tips on job seeking, interview, and CV skills. A mix of Kickstart and other jobs will be available. To book your place at the jobs fair on October 6, visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/abz-works-jobs-fair-tickets-177038144857

Aberdeen City Council’s ABZWorks employability team has joined forces with NESCol, the Department for Work and Pensions, Business Gateway, Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership and Skills Development Scotland to deliver the redundancy support event, which will run from 12pm until 7pm on Tuesday.
