Aberdeen’s new Refuse and Recycling Fleet takes to the streets

A £1.2 million fleet of new waste and recycling collection vehicles took to the streets this week as changes to Aberdeen’s waste and recycling services got underway.

From Monday 6 March, all refuse, garden waste and recycling collection routes have changed and householders should now be using their new collection calendars.

New general waste bins are also being delivered across the city at a rate of around 2,000 bins per day and this delivery is expected to be complete by May. The existing refuse bins will then be re-designated as mixed recycling bins which will replace the current box and bag service. However, residents should continue to use their existing bins and recycling boxes and bags until their new ones arrive. Councillor Gordon Graham, Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee Vice Convener, said: “We have invested £1.2 million in the new fleet as part of our huge commitment to achieving our zero waste ambitions and statutory obligations.

“This week the Council Leader visited the new £27 million Materials Recycling Facility and we are delivering 70000 new general waste bins across the city as we gear up for a greener Aberdeen”.

A total of eight vehicles have been delivered for the new service. These vehicles will be able to collect the waste and recyclables more efficiently resulting in a faster and safer collection service. The new vehicles mean that the services are fully harmonised with the same vehicle types now being used for all waste and recycling collection services which results in further savings and increased fleet flexibility.
