Aberdeen City Council celebrates Year of Young People with launch of Creative Funding programme
15 March 2018
Aberdeen City Council celebrated Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018 with the launch of the ‘Year of Young People Creative Funding’ programme.
The £100,000 funding programme will offer awards of up to £10,000 to support the delivery of youth-led creative activity in the city. It will also build upon the city’s rich history and heritage of youth participation activity by empowering young people through creative pathway opportunities as well as having a voice in the decision making process.
The fund will actively encourage young people to design, develop and deliver creative events and activities within their own communities, applying as individuals (16-25) or as youth groups (8-25) working with arts organisations, community groups and or volunteer organisations. Young people interested in culture; including gaming, heritage and creative writing, will be able to apply for the funding.
Young people will also be involved in the decision making with Aberdeen’s Youth Ambassadors participating with the funding review panels to make recommendations for awards.
Councillor Lesley Dunbar, Education Operational Delivery Vice-Convener, said “The council’s fund is a great way for Young People to gain new skills. I’d encourage young people to apply for funding for any creative activities they are involved with.”
Several of Aberdeen’s Youth Ambassadors attended the launch at Seventeen on Belmont Street which is currently hosting Our Creative Future, an exhibition celebrating art, design, architecture and photography created by young people across Aberdeen and the North East.
One of the Youth Ambassador’s and Aberdeen City Youth Council Chair, Rosa McQueen, said “This fund is a great opportunity for local young people to showcase talents across Aberdeen. Our young people should be encouraged to pursue this fund and all the possibilities it could bring them.”
