Aberdeen City Council commits to ongoing support for city schools

12 March 2020

Aberdeen City Council today (Thursday 12 March) committed to providing ongoing support for city schools for which improvements have been recommended by Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate following inspections.

The Education Operational Delivery Committee were updated on the inspection processes and given assurance about progress already made to address the recommendations. The Committee approved the current level of ongoing support for schools undergoing the inspections process.

Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Convener, said: “While the reports highlighted a number of areas for development in some schools as well as positive outcomes in others, it was heartening to learn that great strides have been taken thanks to the early intervention and ongoing support of our Education Service led by Eleanor Sheppard and also the sheer hard work of the staff at each school.

“We anticipate that some of the schools will undergo follow-up inspections in the coming months. I am confident that the inspection teams will find improvements against each of the areas identified in keeping with our ambition of providing our children and young people the best starts in life, regardless of circumstances”.
