Aberdeen City Council statement re Froghall incident
05 February 2017
An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: "Council staff across a range of services continue to work with emergency and utilities services to assist residents affected by the incident in the Froghall area of the city on Friday (03 February).
“Public safety has been our key objective which is why the council has taken the decision to carry out safety checks on the council owned properties (blocks 3, 4 and 5) affected by the incident and has employed an independent contractor to carry out safety checks on the privately owned homes.
“This will ensure that essential safety checks have been carried out in all properties in blocks 3, 4 and 5 and that residents in blocks 3, 4 and 5 will be able to return to their properties by this evening (Sunday 05 February).
“Block 5 has electricity power but no gas supply which means people can get into their flats but they may not have heating or hot water. Where this is the case heaters are being provided and the option of temporary accommodation is also being made available.
"Temporary accommodation has been made available over the weekend for those who required it.
"Arrangements are now being made to address the issue of medium and longer term temporary accommodation for those residents in blocks 1 and 2 who will be unable to return to the homes meantime."We will continue to work in partnership with the emergency and utilities services to ensure that we can limit the distress caused by such an incident and work tirelessly in order that residents can return to their homes once the necessary works have been carried out."
Residents affected by the incident requiring further information can telephone 01224 522882 today (Sunday 05 February).
Alternatively, residents affected by the incident can visit the council’s Homelessness Accommodation Centre on West North Street (beside Morrison’s supermarket) today (Sunday 05 February). Assistance will be available at West North Street until everyone is back in their flats (blocks 3, 4 and 5).
