Aberdeen City Libraries to celebrate Book Week Scotland

Aberdeen City Libraries is once again delighted to take part in Book Week Scotland, the annual celebration of books and reading, which is held from Monday 15 November to Sunday 21 November.
Now in its 10th year, the theme for Book Week Scotland 2021 is ‘Celebration’. Aberdeen City Libraries will celebrate the return of in-person events and welcome audiences back for the first time since March 2020 as part of a hybrid programme of physical and digital events.
Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesperson Councillor Marie Boulton said: “I am thrilled that we are able to offer in-person events at our libraries, the first time since last year due to Covid restrictions. With so many different in-person and online events on offer there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

An evening with Aberdeen’s Crime Writing Queen - Deborah Masson
Monday 15 November, 6pm-7.30pm

Join us, as Aberdeen’s newest Crime Writing Queen, Deborah Masson, kicks off our Book Week Scotland celebrations. The Winner of the 2020 Bloody Scotland Scottish Crime Debut of the Year, Deborah will be in conversation about her prize-winning work, ‘Hold your tongue’ and ‘Out for blood’, featuring DI Eve Hunter and much more. This event will include a Q&A with book sale and signing and will also be live streamed via Aberdeen City Libraries YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/AberdeenCityLibraries
Aa aboot Doric: Local design and digital tools to inspire your Doric writing
Creative writing workshop with Shane Strachan

Celebrate Book Week Scotland with this special workshop led by local writer and performer, Shane Strachan. The workshop will explore the creative inspirations and digital tools he uses to write new works in Doric (North East Scots). Shane will look at examples of how visual art from the North East can be used to stimulate writing, as well as taking inspiration fae oor mither tongue. No prior experience of creative writing or Doric is necessary to take part.
Stuart MacBride: My life in books
Saturday 20 November, 3pm-4.30pm

Rounding off the city’s Book Week Scotland celebrations, City Libraries are delighted to welcome Aberdeen Hall of Heroes Crime writing legend, Stuart MacBride to Central Library for a special ‘My life in books’ event.
Stuart will be in conversation with guest chair Fiona Stalker, to discuss his work and give an insight into the books which have had an impact on his life as a reader. This is an event not to be missed. This event will be recorded and available to view on Aberdeen City Libraries’ YouTube channel from the week beginning Monday 22 November. https://www.youtube.com/c/AberdeenCityLibraries
In addition to the author events, there will be events and activities for children and young people include an online Bookbug session and in-person story sessions and a special Storytrail at Duthie Park, in partnership with Duthie Park Rangers.
