Aberdeen Crematorium chapels and reception area re-open after improvement works
12 December 2018
Services are being held again at Aberdeen Crematorium after a major refurbishment.
The works, which cost around £1million, included replacing the existing entrance and reception area, new disabled toilets, a new digital media system which will allow images and music during services, and a complete redecoration of both chapels.
The works also included a bright and welcoming new reception area, a new area for the book of remembrance, refurbishment of toilets, refurbishment of both entrance and departure halls as well as external improvements, new flooring and seating in both chapels, new lighting, refurbishment of catafalques and lecterns in both chapels and the repair of the ventilation system in the chapels.
Aberdeen City Council operational delivery convener Councillor John Wheeler said: “The improvements have made a huge difference to the reception areas and both chapels, ensuring we have up-to-date facilities. This has been an important project and it has been completed with care and attention to detail.
“We would like to thank people for their patience in using other venues while the work has taken place and we would also like to thank other local churches and crematoria for their help during the refurbishments.”
Alternative arrangements have been in place for several months to accommodate the works.
Staff at the facility have been receiving training for the new digital media system while testing for the equipment has also been taking place. Funeral directors and officiates were also shown around the refurbished facility prior to its re-opening on Monday, 10 December.
