Aberdeen event highlights decommissioning opportunities in Brazil

Oil and gas decommissioning opportunities in Brazil were highlighted at a business seminar held at Aberdeen’s Town House today (Thursday 30 November).

Delegates heard that more than150 offshore production units are in operation in Brazil and according to the country’s National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), more than 50% of these structures have been operating for more than 25 years. Brazil is now seeking later-life and decommissioning skills for upcoming projects in Brazil. Scottish companies which have been operating the North Sea have many of the sought after skills and experience.

Speakers at the event included Flavia Silva, Business Development Manager - Oil and Gas, UK Department of International Trade (DIT); Ronald Carreteiro, Coordinator of the Decommissioning Committee, Sobena (the Brazilian Society of Marine Engineering) and Eduardo Zacaron, Decommissioning Manager, Petrobras - Brazil’s national oil company.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett, who welcomed delegates to the seminar, said: “It has been a challenging time for the oil and gas industry hence it is important we host these types of events as they facilitate business-to-business interaction.

“By sharing industry knowledge, contacts, and experiences new business opportunities can be developed, which is good news for all involved.”

Following the seminar delegates were given the opportunity to have one-to-one meetings with various organisations including: Petrobras, Sobena, UK Department of International Trade, Techcon, FK Ambiental, Panorama Metais Ltda, Marca Ambiental LTDA, Kuehne + Nagel, Plural Representcoes LTDA.
