Aberdeen ready for COVID-19 route map review

COUNCIL leaders said today [Tuesday 08 September] that Aberdeen is ready to respond to the next scheduled review of the COVID-19 route map.

On Thursday [10 September], the Scottish Government will update the country on steps for managing restrictions.

Scotland is currently in Phase 3 of the route map and a number of restart dates have still to confirmed, including indoor entertainment venues such as theatres (with restricted capacity), the limited reopening of stadia (with restricted numbers), a wider range of outdoor events such as concerts with standing audiences and the resumption of indoor contact sports for adults and young people – all subject to appropriate guidance.

The government has made clear that moving ahead with the route map will be conditional on continued progress in suppressing the virus.

Council Co-Leader Councillor Douglas Lumsden said: “Aberdeen has experienced unprecedented challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we are a resilient and determined city and by working together we will get through this.

“The Council’s Socio-Economic Rescue Plan for the city ensures we will continue to work in partnership to support local businesses as we move through phases 3 and 4 provided when the Scottish Government signals it is safe to do so.”

Council Co-Leader Councillor Jenny Laing added: “The impact in terms of people’s health and economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be underestimated. We are committed to playing our part so Aberdeen might emerge from lockdown in a way that protects public health and sustains our local economy.

“I am very proud of our efforts to date and of the role the public has played in helping us move forward as a city.”
