Aberdeen schools win sports awards

Two Aberdeen schools won awards in the prestigious Aberdeen Sports Awards last night (Thursday 6 October).
Kingswells School won the Best Primary School award while Bridge of Don Academy won the Secondary School prize. The awards were announced at a glittering ceremony at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and recognised the school’s extra commitment to physical education (PE) and sport.
Bridge of Don Academy has a sports council and ambassadors for each activity to promote sporting initiatives and participation as well as delivering sports leadership to pupils enabling them to provide sports sessions at local primary schools. As a result the school has also recently achieved the Gold Award from Sport Scotland.
Councillor Angela Taylor, Education and Children’s Services committee convener said: “These are well-deserved prizes for both schools recognising the efforts of the head teachers, PE teachers and their colleagues to promote the health and wellbeing of their pupils.
“It is also a great accolade for the pupils who participate so enthusiastically in sports activities”.
The schools had illustrious company among its fellow winners including Paralympic and Olympic heroes David Florence and Neil Fachie who was there with fiancé Lora Turnham.
