Additional funding available for new community hub

A multi-million pound state-of-the-art community hub has been awarded additional funding which will enable crucial services to be delivered.

The Tillydrone community hub has received a £1.9million grant from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund. The grant is in addition to £4.1million previously pledged by Aberdeen City Council to build the new complex.

The fit-for-purpose facility will be built on Hayton Road and will include a library, crèche, cafe, business start-up unit, activity halls for fitness and recreation. There will also be on site council services for housing tenants, community support and priority families outreach.

Aberdeen City Council’s spokesman for Regeneration and Transport Councillor Ross Grant said: “I welcome the news that the Scottish Government has backed this fantastic facility with a grant of £1.9million.

“This centre will be a crucial resource for supporting individuals and families in the local area and we have worked closely with local folk to identify a wide range of services in order to do so.

“The hub will have something for everyone including educational and leisure facilities but it is also important that we deliver services to help those most in need.

“The Regeneration Capital Grant will allow us to include a training kitchen so families can learn how to create healthy meals, a laundry room and shower facilities for those who may not have hot water.

“This is the start of the largest transformation programme that Tillydrone seen, the plans for the future are not just about bricks and mortar it is about improving the quality of life for residents.”

Plans are firmly in place to build a new school and additional affordable housing in the area. Furthermore the results of the community led participatory budgeting project, UDECIDE, will be announced this weekend (11 March) where £82,500 will be divided amongst community groups in Tillydrone, Seaton and Woodside.

Aileen Davidson, Chair of the Tillydrone Network said: “This facility will be great for Tillydrone; residents have waited a long time for it to happen.

“The most important thing was at the council and community reps worked together to develop the hub and the services it will provide. There has been a great deal of input from the local community, and we are delighted that everything we asked for has happened.”
