Apprenticeships on the agenda for Scotland’s biggest parent’s evening

It’s traditionally seen as an event to fill pupil’s hearts with trepidation, but Aberdeen is playing host to a parent’s evening with a difference next Wednesday (6 March) and with the accent very much on the positive.
Billed as Scotland’s Biggest Parents Evening, the event at Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce will be the focus of the city’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week activities.
Parents and carers are invited to the free event, hosted by school and business link organisation Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East, which will highlight the value of apprenticeships and work-based learning can bring to individuals.
Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Delivery Convener, who was visiting Bucksburn Academy today, said: “There a variety of apprenticeships available including foundation courses which pupils can undertake while still at school.
“Aberdeen City Council is committed to ensuring that our young people have the best possible outcomes in life and our schools are helping to promote Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
“Events such as this provide parents and carers with an insight into the potential opportunities for their children to develop their skills and secure rewarding employment. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend”.
