Bin collections and Christmas tree collections over the festive period

19 December 2018
Residents in Aberdeen were today advised that if their waste or recycling bins were due to be picked up on Christmas or New Year’s Day, they will instead be picked up the Saturday before.
So, the 25 December collection will instead be picked up on 22 December, and the 31 December collection will be picked up on 29 December. Collections due on Boxing Day and 2 January will be carried out as usual.
The bin collection services will be operating at a reduced level over the festive period so uplift times may change. Residents are advised to have their bins out by 7am to ensure they are emptied.
Residents are reminded to recycle as much as possible over the festive period including wrapping paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. We cannot recycle glitter or foil wrapping paper, bows or ribbons. You can find out what happens to your recycling by watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wjtnASCvRg.
People are encouraged to reduce or recycle their food waste, and the website www.lovefoodhatewaste.com has helpful hints and recipes.
For recycling real Christmas trees, people can take them to their nearest household waste and recycling centre with information on where these are and opening times at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/recyclingcentres.
For households with wheelie bins, the City Council will collect your tree on your usual brown bin collection day between 7 and 18 January. If you can, please put your tree in the brown bin and close the lid.
For households who use communal bins, there are two date periods for you to leave your tree out, depending on where you live. For people who live on or south of the Beach Boulevard, Justice Street, the Castlegate, Union Street, Albyn Place, Queen’s Road and Skene Road, the collection will be from 3 to 7 January. For people who live north of these streets, the collection will be from 8 to 12 January. The tree and communal bin collection may be on different days or times.
