Bin collections over the 2019/20 festive period
28 November 2019
Residents in Aberdeen were today advised that if their waste or recycling bins were due to be picked up on Christmas or New Year’s Day, they would instead be picked up the Saturday before.
So, the Wednesday 25 December collection will instead be picked up on Saturday 21 December, and the Wednesday 1 January collection will be picked up on Saturday 28 December. All other uplifts over the period, including Boxing Day and 2 January, will take place on the usual collection day, though times may change so residents are advised to have their bins out by 7am.
Residents with household wheeled bins will have their real Christmas tree collected on their usual brown bin day from 6 to 17 January, and the tree should be placed alongside the brown bin. Residents do not need to have a garden waste permit to have their tree collected.
Communal bin users, both on and off-street, are requested to leave their tree by their communal bins, allowing access for use and emptying of the bins. Collections will be from 6 to 10 January for addresses on and south of Beach Boulevard, Justice Street, Castlegate, Union Street, Albyn Place, Queens Road and Skene Road. For all addresses north of the above, the collections will be from 13 to 17 January.
Residents are reminded that all bin collection services will be operating at a reduced level over the festive period so there may be delays in some areas especially in adverse weather conditions.
People are also asked to recycle as much as possible over the festive period including wrapping paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. Aberdeen City Council cannot recycle glitter or foil wrapping paper, bows or ribbons however.
Food waste can also be reduced or recycled, and the website www.lovefoodhatewaste.com has helpful hints and recipes.
Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be open for standard winter opening hours through the festive season except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and more information on these can be found at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/recyclingcentres.
As in previous years, requests for bulky uplifts will be suspended over the festive period. Flytipping will continue to be uplifted as resources allow.
