Bus shelters being replaced

03 February 2016

A total of 15 bus shelters are being replaced around Aberdeen this month (Feb) using funds from the Bus Lane Enforcement surplus fund.

£55,000 was allocated for bus shelter replacement in the 2015/16 budget for the structures which are reaching the end of their lifespan.

In both 2014/15 and 2015/16, funding was allocated for the replacement programme on a number of bus shelters, and in 2014/15, a total of 17 of the structures were replaced.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Infrastructure and Housing convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: "We're using some of the money from the Bus Lane Enforcement surplus fund to further provide high quality bus stop shelters, which fits in with our long-terms plans to provide better and easier-to-use alternatives to car usage as part of the Local Transport Strategy.

"Encouraging more people to use buses is good for the environment and is good for the city and we hope more folk will try hopping on a bus rather than taking the car."

The bus shelters are being replaced at Bodachra Road, Balgownie Road, Craigiebuckler Avenue, Denmore Road, two on Dubford Road, Inverurie Road, three on Jesmond Drive, Jesmond Avenue North, two on Kingswells Crescent, Skene Road, and Valentine Road.

The Bus Lane Enforcement (BLE) surplus fund is utilised to implement the Local Transport Strategy.

In addition, nine new bus shelters are to be installed in Tillydrone and Danestone as part of the Third Don Crossing project.
