Children’s Laureate reads to Aberdeen youngsters

16 September 2016

Almost a thousand Aberdeen youngsters were enthralled by Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell at the Beach Ballroom yesterday (Thursday 15 September) as he read from a selection of his works.

960 pupils packed into the venue to hear Chris on what was the biggest date of his Scottish tour. Famous to children and adults alike for his Goth Girl series of books, the writer and illustrator sketched an illustration showing just how happy he was to be in the Granite City. Chris’ sketch, showing him floating in the air, read: “Borne aloft on billows of goodwill at multi school event at the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen”.

Chris further thrilled the admiring youngsters by signing his books at the end of the event which was organised by The Scottish Book Trust in partnership with Aberdeen City Council.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Angela Taylor, Aberdeen City Council Education and Children’s Services Committee Convenor, said: “What a wonderful morning! It’s been a great pleasure to have the Children’s Laureate, Chris Riddell, with us today. Thank you Chris for keeping us so enthralled. It’s fantastic that the biggest event on this tour has been in Aberdeen.”
