City's Winter Gardens to reopen

The much-loved Winter Gardens in Duthie Park are to reopen on Monday, October 11, after a national relaxation of coronavirus restrictions.

Plans for the reopening of the David Welch Winter Gardens – which have been maintained throughout the Covid-19 pandemic – have had to take account of evolving public safety guidance.

The Scottish Government announced last month that there is no longer a requirement for 1-metre physical distancing for indoor facilities.

Aberdeen City Council’s Operational Delivery Committee convener Councillor Philip Bell said: “It's great that we are finally able to reopen the Winter Gardens as this facility has been very much missed.

“We appreciate the public's patience during the closure and their understanding of safety considerations as well as staff efforts to keep the gardens in superb condition.”

Online booking will be used to help manage visitor numbers, with a maximum slot of one hour.

Booking can be made from October 6 on the council's website. 

The David Welch Winter Gardens will be open from noon to 5pm to allow essential maintenance to take place outside these hours. Face masks will be required to be worn.

The council regrets that it is unable to accommodate wedding ceremonies in the Winter Gardens for the time being.
