The construction of a new state-of-the-art community hub in Aberdeen has taken a major step forward after a contract to build the new facility was signed.
Aberdeen City Council has awarded CHAP Group the contract to start construction on the £6million new community facility, which will be home to a variety of vital services and leisure opportunities.
The Tillydrone Community Hub, which will be located on Hayton Road, will include a range of services to support local people such as activity space, a community café, training kitchen, early learning and childcare space, emergency laundry provision and a food bank outlet. Essential council services will also be delivered from the new facility.
Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Councillor Yvonne Allan said “I am very pleased that we have appointed CHAP Group to build the Tillydrone Community Hub. This facility is yet another example of our commitment to working in partnership with local communities to deliver the services they tell us they really want.
"I am sure that the residents of Tillydrone will welcome this news and continue to work with Council officers to deliver a fantastic community facility at the heart of Tillydrone.”
Jim Young, Construction Director at CHAP Group said “As a local business, this is an important project for CHAP Group. As a local employer, we know how much a project like this means to Tillydrone and we look forward to working with everyone in the area in delivering this vital community facility”.
Construction of the new Hub will begin in March 2018 and completed in early 2019.
Aberdeen City Council has committed £4.1 million towards the complex, while a further £1.9m grant has been awarded from the Scottish Government and COSLA Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
Minister for Local Government and Housing, Kevin Stewart said: “I’m delighted to see this project, which I know well, get under way. This purpose-built and state-of-the-art community hub will provide local residents with access to vital community services and become a focal meeting point for the community. I’m pleased that we have been able to support this project where the community has been at the forefront of ensuring it meets local needs.”
