Cults Cheetahs setting the pace for new charity challenge

Pupils at Cults School Aberdeen’s will take on a 200 mile challenge next Friday (22 June) and raise money for three charities into the bargain.

The schools running club, called the Cults Cheetahs, blasted their target last year of 100 miles and this year hope to smash the 200 mile target from 8am until the school bell rings at 9am.

The running group of some pupils will attempt to beat their record by running, jogging and walking as many laps as they can in one hour. Family and supporters are welcome to come along and cheer on the Cheetahs.

The P4-P7 pupils nominated three charities to benefit from the sponsored event - type 1 diabetes charity JRDF, Friends of the Special Nursery and the SSPCA.

Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Delivery Convener, said: “This is a fantastic effort from the pupils at Cults School and I wish them every success in beating their target and raising funds for some very worthwhile causes.”

Morvern McKay, Deputy Head Teacher at Cults School, said: “Attending running club is a great start to the day for Cults Cheetahs. Having competed the 100 mile challenge with ease last year, it’s lovely to see the club build upon this and aim for 200 miles. Their enthusiasm, energy and team spirit will ensure they achieve their target.”

Staff members from all three charities have paid visits to the local school in the run up to the challenge, to share with their work with the children.
