EcoCity Awards entries now open

Entries are now open for the annual EcoCity Awards.

The EcoCity Awards recognise and reward local people for their efforts to make Aberdeen a more sustainable city, and are open to all individuals, community groups, schools, businesses and charities within the city.

Winners will receive a certificate, prize and use of the EcoCity Award logo to help towards the continued success their projects.

The Aberdeen EcoCity Awards, hosted by Aberdeen City Council, were established in 2007 as an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice in Aberdeen.

Following the introduction of three new categories in 2016, a further two new categories have been added for 2017 – a Waste and Recycling EcoCity Award aimed at businesses and an Energy Efficiency EcoCity award.

Categories for the 2017 EcoCity Awards are:

Fairtrade EcoCity Award: For the individual, organisation or school which has most successfully demonstrated a commitment to Fairtrade and contributed to keeping Aberdeen a Fairtrade City.

Energy Efficiency EcoCity Award: For the individual, organisation or school which has most successfully demonstrated a commitment to promoting or facilitating energy efficiency measures within a domestic or non-domestic building.

Sustainable Travel EcoCity Award: For the individual, organisation or school which has most successfully demonstrated a commitment to promoting and facilitating sustainable travel (walking, cycling, car-share, public-transport etc.) in Aberdeen.

Waste and Recycling Champion EcoCity Award For the individual, organisation or school in Aberdeen which has most successfully demonstrated a commitment to promoting or facilitating sustainable waste management including waste reduction, reuse or recycling.

Waste and Recycling Business Ecocity Award For a commercial organisation that can demonstrate that it has taken significant steps to either reduce, reuse and recycle its own waste and/or has taken steps to encourage its customers and/or suppliers to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Clean-up Champion EcoCity Award: Two awards recognising the efforts of individuals or organisations making Aberdeen a more beautiful place by picking-up, reducing and recycling litter.

Growing Smarter Individual EcoCity Award: For the individual who has most successfully promoted, or contributed to, enhancing the environment and improving the quality of life in Aberdeen.

Growing Smarter Organisation EcoCity Award: For the organisation which has most successfully promoted, or contributed to, enhancing the environment and improving the quality of life in Aberdeen.

Growing Smarter Junior EcoCity Award: For the school (or group of school-aged children) that has most successfully promoted, or contributed to, enhancing the environment and improving the quality of life in Aberdeen.

Judges Award: For the best newcomer or innovative entry as awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Overall EcoCity Award: For the most inspiring entry helping Aberdeen to become a more sustainable city.
