Education committee agrees feasibility study

17 November 2017

A feasibility study to identify improvements to Riverbank School has been approved at Aberdeen City Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee today (Thursday 16 November).

The report before committee today detailed the conclusions of option appraisals carried out in relation to the possible options to deal with the growing over-capacity issue at St Peter’s RC School and the long term education provision at the school.

The report had been requested by the committee at its meeting in March 2017, following its decision to construct a new primary school in Tillydrone and officers were instructed to consider the potential future uses of the existing Riverbank School site.

The motion put forward by the Education and Children’s Services Committee Convener Councillor John Wheeler, and approved by members stated that the committee:

(a) note the outcome of the option appraisal work to date; and

(b) instruct the Head of Policy, Performance and Resources to undertake a feasibility study to identify improvements to Riverbank School and the associated costs, including the costs of bringing up to category A and to report to the Committee at its meeting in January 2018.

Aberdeen City Council’s Convener of Education and Children’s Services Councillor John Wheeler said: “While short term measures have been put in place to deal with the over-capacity issue at St Peter’s RC School we have always known that a long term solution must be found. The feasibility study will allow us to see how this could possibly be done through improvements to the Riverside School site.”
