Excellence in food safety recognised in Aberdeen

A city hotel has become the latest recipient of an Eat Safe Award recognising excellence in food hygiene and food safety management.
Malmaison has been presented with its award after impressing inspectors, bringing the number of businesses in Aberdeen meeting the strict criteria to 11.
The national initiative, operated by Food Standards Scotland (FSS) in partnership with local authority environmental health teams, is open to any business supplying food directly to consumers.
Cllr John Wheeler, convener of Aberdeen City Council’s Operational Delivery Committee, said: “Our environmental health team works closely with businesses throughout the city and the Eat Safe initiative is a great tool for rewarding those who excel.
“With more than 1,800 eligible businesses in Aberdeen alone, gaining an award is an endorsement for the establishment and a source of assurance for consumers.
“We congratulate Malmaison on their award and all of the businesses that have been recognised to date. Each is playing their part in raising the profile of the important issue of food safety in the city.”
Eligible establishments are assessed for the award as part of scheduled food hygiene inspections undertaken by officers from environmental health and are only given an Eat Safe Award if they clearly show that their standards are above and beyond those required by law.
Eat Safe Award recipients in Aberdeen are: The Archibald Simpson; Beach Ballroom; Grandholm Care Home; International School of Aberdeen; Haigs Food Hall; Malmaison Aberdeen; Rosewell House; Sodexo at Woodhill House; Style Restaurant (Debenhams); The Mariner Hotel; Upperkrust Aberdeen.
