Extra public holiday approved for next summer
28 September 2021
Aberdeen is set to enjoy an extra public holiday as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Today the city council’s Staff Governance Committee approved June 3, 2022.
Scotland’s local authorities were invited to determine which date should mark the monarch’s 70 years in their own area, and a number of options had been considered in consultation with trade unions before the proposal was put forward.
Staff Governance Committee convener, Councillor Yvonne Allan, said: "We are delighted to approve an extra public holiday on June 3, giving staff the staff to join in the Jubilee celebrations.”
In line with legal requirements, the education service is to make a formal request to Scottish Government for an additional school closure day on June 3.
A year of events are being planned across the country to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
