Fernielea School has been awarded an internet safety award from national body, Digital Schools Awards Scotland.
The city primary school received the Special Recognition Badge for Cyber Resilience and Internet Safety (CR-IS) which is recognised by Education Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government’s Child Protection Unit and Police Scotland.
The report which summarised the school’s success said that Fernielea had “taken a comprehensive and rigorous approach in planning their cyber resilience internet safety programme over the last five years”.
The pupils were commended for their knowledge and skills in internet safety while the teaching staff were commended for the wealth of knowledge they had amassed and their ability to deliver a sound digital technologies curriculum in which safety and awareness are focal points.
Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Delivery Convener, said: “This a well-deserved award and recognition for all the innovative work that has been done at Fernielea over the last few years.
“The physical and emotional wellbeing of all our schoolchildren is a top priority for us and it’s great to see Fernielea School’s efforts rewarded in this way”.
Head Teacher, Lisa Walker, said: “Being awarded the CR-IS Special Recognition Badge is the result of a lot of hard work from our Digital Leaders pupil voice group and our Depute Head, Mrs Bennett, who ensured that everyone in our school community knew how to be safe online and how to be a respectful, effective and safe digital citizen. We are very proud to receive this award from Digital Schools Scotland”.
