Festivities continue with Aberdeen nativity scene blessing

27 November 2019

The Aberdeen festive programme continues when a blessing service for the nativity scene in St Nicholas Kirkyard takes place next week.

The Depute Provost of Aberdeen Councillor Jennifer Stewart will welcome Members of Aberdeen Churches Together and local school children for the service. It begins at 11am on Monday (December 2).

Gary Smith will lead the welcome followed by a prayer by Hutton Steel and a blessing from Bishop Hugh Gilbert and the benediction from Bishop Anne Dyer.

Popular Christmas Carols will be sung by pupils from Ferryhill Primary School, Hannover Street Primary School, Holy Family RC Primary School, St Margaret’s Junior School, St Peter’s RC Primary School, St Joseph’s RC Primary School, Robert Gordon’s College Junior School and Seaton Primary School.

The Depute Provost said: “The blessing of the nativity scene is always a special occasion and an opportunity to take time out from such a busy time of year to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and the spirit of joy and hope. Peace and goodwill to all.”

Refreshments are provided in St Nicholas Kirk following the service.

The Nativity scene will be open daily, from dawn to dusk, until 7 January 2020.
