Flooding on city roads today

29 November 2018

Motorists are advised there are several roads around the city affected by flooding today following the heavy rain.

There are about 20 localised floods and three roads which are particularly affected including Baillieswells Road which is almost impassable, and the Kingswells to Bucksburn country road which is completely covered by flood water as is Pitmedden Road at Dyce Caravans.

Other areas include Balgownie Road at Balgownie Drive, King Street opposite Lidl, Jute Street, Culter House Road, Clifton Road, Great Northern Road, Asda Garthdee, Springfield Road at Treetops, Forest Avenue, Smithfield Drive, Stoneywood Road under the Railway Bridge, Newburgh Drive at Jesmond Drive, Newburgh Circle, Powis Terrace between the Kittybrewster council depot and Clifton Road, Slains Avenue, Provost Fraser Drive, Victoria Street Near Parkhill Way, Farburn Terrace, Clement Street at Wellington Street, and Cattofield Gardens.

Bear Scotland has been advised of the flooding at the Asda roundabout at Garthdee as it is a trunk road. The flooding to the gullies at Springfield Road is within the hotel grounds and hotel staff have been notified.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “Our staff are out across the city trying to unblock drains and clear the flood water in difficult weather conditions, so we’d ask motorists to slow down when driving near them.

“We have been clearing leaves from streets and pavements over the last few weeks however drains still can get blocked during periods of heavy rain.

“Motorists are also advised not to drive through flood water as they do not know the depth of the flood water, even if they are in a 4x4.”
