Four council-supported bus services to start this month
18 April 2018
Four council-supported bus services in Aberdeen are starting on Monday 30 April after they were agreed by councillors at committee.
They are service route 14 Kingswells to Aberdeen city centre via Westburn Road, service route 15A Craigiebuckler to the city centre via Airyhall in the evenings, service route 40 Guild Street to Dubford (Shielhill) on Sundays, and service route 94 between Aberdeen Crematorium and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary via Woodend terminus.
The Crematorium Bus Service is ongoing and was included through Common Good Fund at the Council Budget meeting this year, and it was re-tendered and returned to its previous route as the community of Kingswells now has a standalone service. This service was initially approved in January 2013. The other three supported services were agreed at finance, policy and resources committee in September.
Aberdeen City Council transport spokesman Councillor Ross Grant said: “We are delighted to step in with these council-supported bus services as we knew how vital good public transport links are to our residents.
“We carried out research and found there were key areas of the city which had an
identified gap in public transport provision so we are stepping in to provide services for these communities.”
The service 14 will be a new service which will operate via Holburn Junction and terminate at Upperkirkgate, and will replace the Kingswells village leg of the service currently provided by the service 94 while providing an extended service to Aberdeen city centre. This service will be operated by Stagecoach North Scotland.
The service will operate from Monday to Saturday on a 30 minute frequency during peak times in the morning and afternoon/evening and on an hourly frequency during off peak times in the afternoon and evening. There will be no Sunday service at this time.
Stagecoach North Scotland’s fare structure will be implemented on this service with Stagecoach season passes accepted on the service.
From 30 April, the operation of the service 15A, evening service between Craigiebuckler/Airyhall and Aberdeen City Centre will transfer to Stagecoach North Scotland from First Aberdeen following a tendering exercise. Sunday services will be withdrawn on this service with journeys from Monday to Saturday following the same timetable as the existing service.
The fare structure on this service will be amended to follow Stagecoach North Scotland’s fare structure as the new operator of the service. First Aberdeen and Stagecoach season passes will be accepted on this service
The new service 40 which will service Guild Street to Dubford (Shielhill) will be a Sunday-only service, and will operate on an hourly basis from 8.40am to 10.25pm.
The service will be provided by First Aberdeen with their fare structure, and First seasons passes will be accepted on this service.
The new service route 94 will operate between Aberdeen Crematorium and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary via the Woodend terminus, from 30 April. The current route 94 service from Kingswells and Kingswells Park and Ride to Aberdeen Crematorium and ARI will be withdrawn.
The new service will operate from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.34pm with the timetable designed with the intention of serving the Crematorium in accordance with the service times at the Chapels where possible.
This service will be operated by Stagecoach North Scotland. Adult single fares on this service will cost either £1.30 or £1.80 and child single fares will cost either 60p or 90p depending on the number of stages travelled. Return tickets will be available for £2.20 for adults and £1.10 for children. Individual operator’s day passes will not be accepted on this service.
