Free Talks at Aberdeen City Libraries

Aberdeen City Libraries will host a series of free events celebrating the work of Charles Dickens from 11 to 18 July.
Monday 11 July from 6- 7pm
A free talk on the serials of Charles Dickens’ early work by Derek F. Stewart will take place in Aberdeen Central Library.
Derek F. Stewart is a second year PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen. Examining the theatricality of urban settings within the mid-nineteenth-century novel, his research explores writings by Charles Dickens as well as lesser-known works by authors including Wilkie Collins, Augustus Mayhew and Shirley Brooks. Other research interests relate to Scottish literature and, in addition to having published on the poetry of Robert Burns, he has lectured on Robert Louis Stevenson.
Monday 18 July, 6- 7pm
Gordon Hay will perform a reading of The Storm scene from David Copperfield by Charles Dickens.
Tuesday 19 July, 1- 2pm
Gordon Hay will perform a reading in Doric of The Trial scene from The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens.
The programme of events has been organised by Aberdeen City Libraries and the Aberdeen branch of The Dickens Fellowship to coincide with the 110th Dickens Fellowship international conference which will be held in the city from 20 July until 25 July 2016.
