Handrails replaced at Aberdeen beach promenade

02 July 2018

Handrails on steps leading down to Aberdeen beach along the promenade are currently being replaced by Aberdeen City Council as part of a package of works for the area.

New steel tubing has been put in place on 12 of the stepped areas at the groynes, with work continuing this week. Plans are in place for the new handrails to be painted once installation is completed.

A tender has also gone out for the replacement of deteriorated sections of the timber handrail which runs between the steps, with work to begin following the award of the contract.

Further enhancements planned for the beach promenade area include additional infrastructure repairs.

Aberdeen City Council operational delivery convener Councillor John Wheeler said: “Our mile-long sandy beach is one of the jewels in the city’s crown and is a big draw for visitors from near and far, so it’s great to see these improvements being carried out as part of the investment we are making.

“Hopefully the sun will continue to shine throughout the summer and as many people as possible can enjoy one of Aberdeen’s most popular attractions.”
