International collaboration helps Power Tomorrow’s World

Aberdeen’s Depute Lord Provost today (Thursday 3 November) hosted a prestigious visit from the Mayor of Barranquilla. The visit is the initial stepping stone to allow both the city of Barranquilla, Columbia and Aberdeen to develop and collaborate on a range of business links.
As part of a larger state visit to the UK, Alejandro Char, Mayor of Barranquilla, was joined by a high level sub group comprising of the Minister of Mines and Energy, the President of Ecopetrol and the President of ANH. The group came to Aberdeen with business in mind as a joint declaration with a strong energy focus was signed.
Aberdeen is recognised as a world-leading expert in the oil and gas industry and as Barranquilla aims to lead on the development of the Colombian offshore oil and gas sector; both regions have declared to strengthen relations, share knowledge and expertise whilst encouraging offshore development.

Our region is enriched with expertise within the industry and Aberdeen City Council stands ready to support Barranquilla as they endeavour to become a global energy hub.

Aberdeen City Council Leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: “I was delighted to join the Colombian delegation today as we continue to build relationships and explore new avenues.
“Aberdeen is a front runner within the industry however we want to promote the benefits of partnership working, ensuring we sustain the industry and build on our reputation that the city is an innovative place to do business.
“I am sure that this event has been very worthwhile for our Colombian visitors and will allow both cities to prosper.”
