Key local businesses support Aberdeen’s future workforce

More than 20 local businesses have signed up to the Moving On youth recruitment event hosted by Aberdeen City Council.
The free event on 30 March will provide a platform for school leavers to explore employment and training opportunities available within the region, including jobs, apprenticeship programmes and other vocational development initiatives. .
Participating businesses will be on hand to discuss career choices as well as training and employment opportunities..
Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure vice-convener Councillor Gordon Graham said: “It is heartening to see so many organisations already signed up. This is a fantastic event for all involved and I encourage locally based job seekers and businesses to get involved.
“Working in partnership with local organisations will help build upon the region’s economy whilst shaping the workforce of the future.”
VSA, Scotia homes, ITCA Limited, Entier, Aberdeen Sports Village, HSBC, Richard Irvin and the Construction Industry Training Board are among the organisations already signed up to the event.
Umax, a local property maintenance and development business, will again be attending the youth recruitment event and director Ken Thomson is looking forward to the day.
Mr Thomson said: “The Moving On event was a great success for us and I am pleased to say that the apprentice who was recruited is thriving and is continuously developing his skills and knowledge. We look forward to the latest event where Lewis our apprentice will be on the stand helping us to recruit again.”
The showcase, delivered in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, is being held at the Town House, Town and County Hall, on Thursday 30 March from 12.30-7pm. It is part of Aberdeen Guarantees, a partnership initiative led by Aberdeen City Council aimed at improving opportunities for 14-25 year-olds.
