Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust launches Afghan appeal
08 September 2021
The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust today (Wednesday 08 September) launched an appeal for funds to support Afghan families looking to make a new home in the UK.
The Home Office has provided short-term accommodation in Aberdeen for more than 100 people arriving from Afghanistan.
Aberdeen City Council and key partners have joined a national effort to assist families during the resettlement phase.
The Charitable Trust has launched a crowdfunding page where residents can make financial donations that can be used for basic living items.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “As the UK Government works to identify permanent accommodation across the country for families, we can help meet their immediate needs through donations.
“Aberdeen and the North-east has a long tradition of looking after the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and I’m sure our generous nature will once again be on display.
“I would encourage everyone to think globally and make the arrivals feel comfortable, welcome and catered for.”
Anyone wishing to contribute to the Aberdeen Afghanistan Appeal is asked to use the Charitable Trust.
The Lord Provost added: “The best way to make a direct and meaningful contribution to the welfare of the families is by visiting the crowdfunding page and following the simple instructions.”
