Lord Provost welcomes Polish Consul General to Aberdeen
01 September 2017
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett welcomed the Consul General of Poland His Excellency Dariusz Adler to the Town House today (Friday 01 September).
One of the Lord Provost’s passions is history, and the meeting was particularly poignant as it was 78 years ago today that World War II began when Germany attacked Poland.
During their meeting the Lord Provost noticed that the Consul General was wearing a badge in honour of the Polish Air Force. His Excellency was so impressed that the Lord Provost recognised the significance of the lapel badge that he gifted it to him.
The Lord Provost said: “I was delighted to meet the Consul General of Poland. We chatted about Aberdeen and Poland and the significance of such consulate visits in terms of culture, social and business links. I also expressed the importance of the Polish community in Aberdeen and their great contribution to the life of the city.
“We also talked about the tremendous support provided by the Polish Air Force during the Battle of Britain and I was thrilled to receive the Consul’s lapel pin because I had recognised it related to the Polish Air Force.”
