26 April 2018

A memorial service will be held on Friday 4 May at Northfield Church for the much-loved Head Teacher of Westpark School, Mr Fraser Cowie.

Mr Cowie passed away at the age of 53 in April after a period of illness. Family, parents, pupils past and present and colleagues are invited attended to come along and pay their tributes and celebrate his life.

The service will commence at 2pm and there is also a book of remembrance in the school foyer for visitors to sign.

The pupils of Westpark request that those attending the service wear something red as not only is the school’s colour but it is also the colour of Mr Cowie’s favourite football team, Aberdeen FC.

The Westpark Community has also started a food bank collection in Mr Cowie’s name.

Alice Atkinson, Acting Depute Head Teacher at Westpark School, said; “The food bank collection was started on Monday 16 April and we have been absolutely overwhelmed by the kindness of our community so far.

“We asked that pupils did not bring flowers or teddy bears to school, but instead to bring it items to donate to Aberdeen Cyrenians Food Bank, knowing that Mr Cowie would want their kind wishes to benefit the local community. Pupils have decorated boxes for the collection, and we will soon be needing them to decorate more as they are almost full.”

Angela Scott, Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council, paid tribute to Mr Cowie; “Fraser was a highly valued member of Aberdeen City Council for over 28 years. He was conscientious and dedicated to the children, families and staff he worked with. As a valued head teacher he was admired by his colleagues.

“In essence Fraser was a lovely, caring and compassionate man and he truly made a difference to the young people and families under his leadership. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to work with and alongside him.”
