Middleton Park School has triumphed in the prestigious Learning Technologies Awards.
Middleton Park is the latest in a series of Aberdeen schools which have recently won, or been nominated for national awards. The list includes Woodside School, which earlier this week became the first ever Scottish school to be shortlisted for the UK Literary Association Literary School of the Year Award.
The glittering awards ceremony which took place last night place (Wednesday 30 November) at The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London saw the Middleton Park School scoop first prize in the category of best Learning Technologies Project – public & non-profit sector.
The Awards celebrate the best in learning technologies both in the UK and worldwide.
Middleton Park won with its Live Learning tool which uses videos created by the pupils to share with other children and their parents, not only in the school but beyond.
Councillor Angela Taylor, Education and Children’s Services Committee Convener, said: “What wonderful news! Winning this UK-wide award is a massive success for Jenny Watson and everyone at the school. Congratulations to everyone involved.
“It’s also well-deserved as the innovative video approach to shared learning is clearly one that has caught the imagination if the children and their parents alike.
“We are immensely proud that Aberdeen City Council’s investment in our children’s education is paying such rich rewards and receiving UK wide recognition”
Head Teacher Jenny Watson, said: “We are thrilled to have won this prestigious award. Our Live Learning is pupil led – they create, film and edit the content of the films. It is a very effective way of both developing and sharing their learning. Our pupils really like that their films are shared with not only their families but with a growing global audience. Live Learning has certainly raised the profile of our school!”
