A new library, café, crèche and activity hall is on the cards for Tillydrone following a commitment by councillors to go out to tender for the project.

The Tillydrone Community Hub will be built on Hayton Road and will bring together a range of services being provided in the area including council services for housing tenants, community support and priority families outreach.

The complex also includes improved retail unit provision allowing potential development of more affordable retail provision, as well as a small retail unit allowing the development of a community or social business, to provide volunteering training and routes to employment for people in the community.

Members of the Finance, Policy and Resources Committee previously approved £4.1million for the Tillydrone Community Hub with additional grant funding of £1.9million coming from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

Aberdeen City Council Finance Policy and Resources Convener Councillor Douglas Lumsden said: “Today marks another milestone for regeneration in our communities.

“The Tillydrone Community Hub is one of many capital projects ongoing across the city and stands apart as a project that will offer greater social and economic equality through improved education and employment opportunities as well as access to health and well-being activities for our residents.

“Bringing all of these services under roof creates greater accessibility and will allow for true community involvement and empowerment.”

Wider regeneration plans for the Tillydrone area are firmly in place, including a new school and additional affordable housing in the area. Furthermore the results of the community led participatory budgeting project, UDECIDE saw £82,500 given to projects selected by residents of Tillydrone, Seaton and Woodside.
