Nearly 1,000 people attend Piper Alpha Memorial

07 July 2018
Nearly 1,000 people attended an Act Of Remembrance for the 167 men who died in the Piper Alpha tragedy.
The service to mark the 30th anniversary of the tragedy was led by Reverend Gordon Craig, Chaplain to the Oil & Gas Industry of the United Kingdom, and held in the Piper Alpha Memorial Garden in Aberdeen's Hazlehead Park yesterday (Friday 6 July).
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: "The service was profoundly moving. Everyone in Aberdeen and beyond recognises the incredible sadness of the Piper Alpha tragedy.
"It changed so much for so many people and that is why it was so important to stand shoulder to shoulder with the industry to let those affected by the tragedy, particularly the families of those who perished, that we remember them now and forever."
