New Artist Commissions Launched at City Centre Art Gallery

An art gallery and creative hub on Belmont Street has launched four new commissions for artists in the North-East to create new work for their exhibition space. Seventeen, Aberdeen’s creative hub run by Aberdeen City Council, is offering £2000 each to four artists working in any discipline.

Previous commissions at Seventeen have led to artists creating a range of work across different mediums, researching new techniques or skills, or expanding their portfolio.

Performance artists using bathtubs, sculptors creating large board game elements that visitors can use to create their own games, crafters using Make Aberdeen’s 3D printers and laser cutters to expand their product range and visual artists showcasing new work, have all benefitted from commissions in the past and Seventeen are hoping to see some new ideas for using the space in this round of applications.

Artists considering applying have until Tuesday 2 May at midnight and are able to book advice sessions with Seventeen staff to discuss the application guidelines and their proposals. These are being held on:

Wednesday 5 April 2017, 3-5pm. Thursday 20 April 2017, 2-5pm.Wednesday 26 April 2017, 2-5pm.

Seventeen also have a large exhibition space on their lower floor which is booked through an open proposal basis. Anyone looking for a space for exhibitions, events, or research can complete a form and apply to use the space free of charge. Applications are now being sought for future proposals and with a deadline of 5pm on 11th May set for these.
