New Depute Provost for the City of Aberdeen

Councillor Jennifer Stewart has been appointed to the role of Depute Provost of Aberdeen by members of Aberdeen City Council today (Monday 04 March).
Aberdeen City Council Co-leader Councillor Douglas Lumsden nominated Councillor Stewart and stated that her compassion, respectfulness to all, and her continued growth spiritually and intellectually make her an ideal candidate for the civic post.
The Depute Provost will support the Lord Provost in his role to promote Aberdeen at every opportunity, and to engage with the community through active involvement in all areas of city life, encouraging good citizenship and giving recognition to the achievements of citizens and local organisations.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “I am delighted that Councillor Jennifer Stewart has been appointed to the post of Depute Provost of Aberdeen. Jennifer cares deeply about all our citizens and her keen interest in the arts, education and faith will ensure that she will excel in her civic role.”
Depute Provost of Aberdeen Councillor Jennifer Stewart said: “I am extremely humbled and honoured that my peers have appointed me to this important civic post.
“I am committed to continuing to work tirelessly for Aberdeen and look forward to working with Lord Provost Crockett in promoting this wonderful city of ours. Speaking candidly, I only wish my late father was here to share this wonderful news with me.”
Councillor Stewart has been a local councillor for 12 years and represents the Hazlehead / Queen’s Cross / Countesswells ward of Aberdeen.
