New Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen

The Lord Provost has commissioned a new Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen at a ceremony in the Town House.

Andrew Lawtie became the Lord Provost's second in command in matters relating to the Royal Family, national honours, and the Armed Forces. The Lord Provost is, by virtue of his office, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen, and represents the monarch within the city assisted by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant and a team of Deputy Lieutenants.

Mr Lawtie said: "I am very honoured to accept my commission as Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen.

"I am a born and bred Aberdonian and I am immensely proud to be asked to represent the city in this way. I look forward to working with the Lord Lieutenant, his staff, Deputy Lieutenants and the community in general and to carrying out my new role to the best of my ability."

Mr Lawtie, 66, worked in local government for 35 years and is a prominent figure in the Aberdeen voluntary sector currently working with North East Sensory Services.

He also organises an annual conference bringing together medical professionals to looks at the challenges of managing cancer in young people. He is an Officer of the Order of St John, a Burgess of Guild of the City of Aberdeen and has been a Deputy Lieutenant since 2003.

Andrew will take the lead in promoting the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service and the Queen's Award for Enterprise to encourage more nominations from Aberdeen.

The Lord Provost said: "We've been working hard to make the work of the Lieutenancy relevant to people's daily lives and I'm looking forward to continuing that work with Andrew to ensure that individuals and organisations in Aberdeen get the national recognition they deserve."
