New option for Council Tax payment as 2018/19 bills are issued

16 March 2018

Council Tax customers in Aberdeen have a new option to spread payments throughout the year as Aberdeen City Council issues its bills for 2018/19.

A 12-month Direct Debit schedule is being offered as an alternative to the usual 10 monthly instalments. A Direct Debit can also be set up for the remaining months of the financial year if it is set-up part way through the billing period.

It is one of two key Council Tax changes this year, with a new exemption for care leavers also being implemented.

Legislation passed at the Scottish Parliament comes into effect on 1 April 2018 and makes provision for a discount or exemption. A care leaver is defined as person who is at least 18-years-old but not yet 26-years-old and who was previously in the care of a local authority at age 16 or subsequently.

A Direct Debit can be set up or amended online by visiting www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/council-tax/pay-council-tax and following the instructions provided.

Care leavers can find details of how to apply in the Information on Council Tax and Council Spending 2018/19 leaflet ,which will be enclosed with annual bills, or by calling 03000 200292.

Council Tax bills are being issued this week (w/c March 12), with Business Rates bills for 2018/19 to be issued in early April.
