New tutorial supports hydrogen roll-out in Aberdeen

27 June 2018

Aberdeen’s ambitious hydrogen programme is being supported by the launch of a new tutorial for drivers refuelling in the city.

The video has been released today (27 June) and is available at https://youtu.be/yi4MIN0MZQs

It has been developed by Aberdeen City Council as part of the Hydrogen Transport Economy 2 (HyTrEc2) Project which is part funded by the Interreg North Sea Region Programme within the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The film shows how to refuel hydrogen vehicles using footage from the Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage (ACHES) Station in Cove.

Aberdeen City Council hydrogen spokesperson Cllr Philip Bell said: “This new film is primarily aimed at drivers of hydrogen vehicles but will also have a wider appeal for anyone interested in the ACHES facility.

“It is a requirement that any new drivers using the station must have watched this video. It is particularly vital that our partner organisations with vehicles in car pools including the NHS, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Co-Wheels Car Club are trained to ensure safe and efficient use of our hydrogen vehicles at all times.”

Until now face-to-face training has been given to new drivers and information leaflets left in the vehicles. With an increase in our fleet and the number of drivers using the hydrogen vehicles this film offers an improved and useful tool in drivers training.

This training tool is part of the wider Aberdeen Region Hydrogen Strategy and Action Plan (2015-2025). The strategy consists of objectives and actions required to develop a hydrogen economy in Aberdeen including, hydrogen for heating, fleet and infrastructure development, as well as training and supply chain engagement.

Hydrogen provides an opportunity to diversify the local economy while contributing to greenhouse gas reduction targets and improving local air quality, as pure hydrogen vehicles emit only water.
