Plans outlined to alleviate capacity issues at St Peter’s School

01 June 2017

Aberdeen City councillors today (Thursday 1 June) approved a plan to alleviate capacity pressures at St Peter’s School.

The action plan has been devised by council officers in conjunction with the head teacher and Parent Council who assisted in prioritising the matters which required most urgent attention.

The primary school is currently at maximum capacity and the proposals include building alterations to free up additional space, converting and utilising the vacant janitor’s lodge and converting an additional room at nearby Old Aberdeen House into a classroom.

Gayle Gorman, Director of Education and Children’s Services, said: “Committee instructed officers to come up with a set of solutions for capacity issues at St Peter’s School, while we look at longer term solutions.

“The improvements we are looking to make in the short-term will improve the learning and teaching environment for staff and pupils alike.”

Council officers have committed to providing the Parent Council with regular updates on progress with the action plan, in order to keep parents informed about the planned work and target completion dates.
