Public invited to attend session to find out about a flood management scheme at Maidencraig

People are being invited to come along to two public sessions being held on Wednesday 16 January and Thursday 17 January to find out information about a flood management scheme at Maidencraig in Aberdeen.

The scheme is to be built in the Den of Maidencraig next to the local nature reserve and would also see a wetlands being created.

The Maidencraig Flood Management & Wetland Scheme will create a new path between the Bancon Homes Maidencrag development and the Den Burn, creating a safe route to schools.

It is also designed to create a new home for nature and reduce the flood risk to homes and properties downstream.

The scheme will involve creating a new path, constructing earth bunds, relocating a small burn to create a space for nature, installation of lighting and replacing the temporary bridge over the Den Burn.

Aberdeen City Council flooding spokesperson Councillor Jennifer Stewart said: “I’d encourage people who live or work in the area to come along to the sessions and find out what the plans are to address flooding by creating a flood management scheme which will also benefit nature.

“Flooding has affected the local area including Hazlehead and Kingsgate so I’m sure the Maidencraig scheme will be most welcome – it also mirrors the flood prevention project at Middlefield which is already under way.”

The public information sessions are being held on Wednesday 17 January, from 3pm to 5.30pm, and at Hazlehead Academy on Thursday 18 January, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

There will be council officers at the sessions to further explain the project and answer any questions people may have.
