Quick thinking Fernielea hero pupils honoured by the school

13 October 2017
11 year old Fernielea School pupils Jac Banks and Bradley Chalmers were honoured today by Head Teacher, Lisa Walker, of their quick thinking which saved the life of their friend and fellow pupil, 10 year old Tyler Hood last week.
Tyler was trying out scooter tricks in Woodend last Thursday when he fell and seriously hurt himself. He was knocked unconscious and was bleeding from his mouth and nose. His friend Jac,who was with him, remembered his first aid skills from the course he did in school and put Tyler in the recovery position. This opened Tyler’s airway while he lay unconscious on the ground. When the ambulance arrived at the scene, they told Tyler’s mum that Jac’s actions had saved Tyler’s life. Bradley looked after Tyler's baby sister at the scene while mum rushed over to see her son.
Jac and Bradley each received a Head Teacher’s Award at the school asembly for their actions. Tyler, who is still recovering, also received recognition for his bravery during his ordeal.
