Aberdeen City Libraries have kicked-off a series of Bookbug sessions as part of Bookbug Week (Monday 14 May – Sunday 20 May 2017).
The eighth annual Bookbug Week offers hundreds of free story, song and rhyme events for babies and toddlers across Scotland.
Bookbug’s Friends is this year’s fun and playful theme, which aims to inspire children and adults alike to make friends with their local library and to share stories songs and rhymes together
The first session took place at Kincorth Library this afternoon (May 14) and the following fun story, song and rhyme activities for children will be taking place in Aberdeen across Bookbug Week:
Bookbug session – Central Children’s LibraryTuesday 15 May – 10.30-11am – booking required
Bookbug session – Bridge of Don LibraryThursday 17 May – 10.30-11am –booking required
Bookbug session –Kaimhill LibraryThursday 17 May – 2.15-2.45pm – no booking required
In addition Aberdeen City Libraries will hold two special events:
Family Storytelling Workshop - Mastrick LibraryWednesday 16 May 3.45-4.45pm - booking required
Led by Greenaway Medal nominated author and illustrator Morag Hood this will be an interactive session suitable for children aged 3-7 and their parents/carers
Family Laughter workshop – Central Children’s LibrarySaturday 19 May – 10.30-11.30am – suitable for families with children aged up to 12-years-old – booking required
Cllr John Wheeler, Convener of Aberdeen City Council’s Education Operational Delivery Committee, said: “By delivering Bookbug in the city libraries we want to encourage a lifelong love of reading. The Bookbug sessions aim to encourage parents to share stories, songs and rhymes with their child and this year’s theme Bookbug’s Friends will promote the positive impact on families of sharing stories and laughter and spending time together.”
